Melinda Hürzeler exhibits in the "Rondo"
June 28th 2003 (Translation of German newspaper article)

Starting next Tuesday until July 31st, 21-year old Melinda Hürzeler exhibits
her paintings at the culture center "Rondo" in Pontresina.
The last four years have been very eventful for the young artist, because her success with Art
developed in the middle of her apprenticeship as a draftsman. So after she received her diploma
in summer 2001, she decided to concentrate completely on Art and moved to New York City to study
at a professional Art school.
Over the last two years Melinda Hürzeler went through a great development in her Arts. Many remember
very well her colorful Neocolor-Style of the years 1999-2001, when she made portraits of many famous
people, as well as a whole collection of well-known sport scenes in the Engadin. In New York she
experimented with Oil colors and started to paint realistic portraits. Because of very turbulent times
in the city and inspiration from various sides, she developed a personal relationship to New York as
well as a great love for Art and Photography, which finally inspired to create the new collection
"Details of Nature in New York". This series is a combination of her two passions: capturing of moments
and details with a camera, that one would not usually notice. With that, she creates a painting with
the atmosphere and character of this impressive city.
Because Melinda Hürzeler grew up surrounded by nature, she always took it for granted. But a life
in such different surroundings as this huge city led to an unconscious searching for nature.
Melinda Hürzeler is fascinated how nature finds the unfriendliest places to break through this world
of concrete and metal. It often reminds her on herself when she's trying to make a little space in this
world that no one would give you if you don't make it yourself. The contrasts in this city are so unique
and capturing to her that she hopes to submit to people through her paintings her fascination and the
atmosphere as well as her love for Art. "Maybe this enables me to show a side of New York that we have
not seen yet."
During Melinda Hürzeler's stay in Switzerland this summer, we want to show her interesting development
in a special exhibition at the "Rondo", where we can see some of her well known works in Neocolor, as
well as her experiments in Oil and as a highpoint for the first time her new collection "Details of
Nature in New York".
